YOGA & THE EMOTIONS

with Dr Cherie Lacey

Interoception

Interoception is our ability to detect the internal physiological state of the body, and is fast becoming recognised as a 'wellbeing superpower'. Scientists have shown that our sensitivity to interoceptive signals can determine our capacity to regulate our emotions, and our subsequent susceptibility to mental health problems such as anxiety and depression. In our June workshop, you'll learn more about the new science of interoception, and learn some yoga and mindfulness techniques to help boost your interoceptive awareness.

About Yoga & the Emotions Workshop Series

Every second Thursday of the month from 5:30-7:30pm, Dr Cherie Lacey will facilitate a workshop on a topic related to Yoga & the Emotions. The series will focus on issues relating to our response to stress and trauma. Previous topics have included: fawning; working with the psoas as a site for held emotion; and yoga and the emotions broadly.

Each workshop explores new research relevant to the topic at hand, includes group discussion and some kind of light yoga or mindfulness practice. Dr Cherie Lacey will also share some tools—drawn from yoga, mindfulness and positive psychology—to help us manage our response to stress and trauma so we can find new ways to cope with difficult, distressing, or stressful emotions.
