ADIPOSE: Embodied w/ Rosie Sievers

  • Awhi Yoga & Wellbeing Level 2, 15 Johnston Street Wellington New Zealand (map)

For most of us, the War on Fat begins soon after birth, and the body is its battleground.

We live in a disembodied culture that disowns the body, calls for the erasure of fat, and makes it other. How can we come into a more neutral and understanding relationship with fat within our body & psyche?

This workshop is an investigation and celebration of the incredible anatomical structure we call fat. You will be guided to investigate the layers of conditioning that have been built around our adipose tissues and uncover the gifts that lay beneath.

WHAT TO EXPECT

We will begin with a check-in and introduction, then dive into understanding the anatomical makeup of fat and why it’s so damn cool. I’ll guide you through some embodied exploration & visualisation leading into a yoga class that explores fat as part of our wholeness & humaness. We will finish up with some relaxation/integration and opportunities to reflect and share. The yoga session will include both vinyasa flow and some yin asana to finish - there will be plenty of options to modify, pause & rest where needed.

This is a workshop for everyone who has fat and all the variable amounts it comes in (that’s everyone)! All bodies, and levels of experience are welcome. HAERE MAI!

WHAT TO BRING

Come with yourself, comfy clothes you can move in, a water bottle, journal and a yoga mat (or rent one from the studio)

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR

Rosie's teachings weave together her experience as a Yoga teacher, Craniosacral therapist, & group facilitator with the rich lessons from her own life and a deep reverence for the human body. She believes that each of us is our own greatest teacher, which makes her a forever-student of her own body. She is fascinated by the landscape within, exploring different forms of movement, learning about the different systems of the body, how they communicate and their relationship to the whole.

On a personal level Rosie likes to draw, making map’s of her own somatic experience, she's a thrift store bargain hunter, bare-foot flower-picker, belly laugher, pole dancer, a lover, a daughter, a sis, an aunty, and she rates herself as a pretty good cook. She is a certified yoga instructor and teaches at AWHI Yoga & Wellbeing.
