As part of our rotating Sunday 2pm classes, we’re SUPER EXCITED to host Funk Society Dance Classes every 4th Sunday of the month! We promise, even if you have two left feet this class will make a dancer out of you!

What to Expect

Here’s what you can expect in the Funk Choreography class:

Dance fitness warmup:
A few high energy tracks to warm up, incorporating moves you'll learn in the class

Routine Breakdown:
Learn a short, fresh routine with Mads to a funky beat, mixing Dancehall, Afro, Brazilian Funk, and Latin vibes. This class is all about developing your connection to your body, working out, and learning some seriously cool moves for the club (or kitchen—hey, no judgment here!).

Flexibility:
The class is designed to let you move at your own pace, with options to adapt the choreography to your own body. Over time, you’ll be able to bring your own style and flavour to each routine - there's no "right or wrong," just a base to explore and make it yours!

When: Every 4th Sunday of the month, 2-3pm at AWHI Yoga & Wellbeing
Level 2, 15 Johnston Street

Investment: $25 drop-in; 20% off for AWHI members & Funk Society members

How to book: Book through our website or download the AWHI app. AWHI member discounts will be automatically applied. Funk Society members must obtain the promo code from Mads. Drop-ins on the day are also welcome — we always have a space for you!

About Mads

Mads is the founder and lead instructor of Funk Society NZ, a vibrant dance community based in Wellington and now Ōtaki. With over 15 years of teaching experience, Mads is dedicated to sharing her love for dance. She founded Funk Society just two years ago, bringing her passion for movement and creativity to every class.

Funk Society classes are a dynamic space where you can explore movement and truly connect with your body — all while having an absolute blast! It's not just about the moves; it’s about building confidence, embracing your own flow and style, and growing in your dance journey. Mads creates an environment where everyone is encouraged to discover their personal style and infuse their own flair into the groove. No matter how you move, you’re always welcomed and celebrated for bringing your authentic self to the dance floor.
