Women's Forest Bathing Event

  • Wellington Botanical Gardens 101 Glenmore Street Kelburn, Wellington New Zealand (map)

*Open to anyone who identifies as a woman, gender diverse or non-binary*

This intentional, mindful walk draws from the Japanese practice of Shinrin-Yoku, which aims to connect participants to all of their senses for the purpose of experiencing a sense of awe, gratitude and relaxation. Studies have shown the numerous health benefits of forest bathing and spending time in nature and greenspaces. Ecotherapy is known to reduce levels of cortisol, symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression and improve physiological and social wellbeing.

The walk is facilitated by Andra Moldoveanu. It begins with an explanation of forest bathing, which will be done mostly in silence. Various sensory exercises will be explored along the way in order to engage our sense of smell, taste, touch, sight, sounds, emotions and body awareness. All suggestions made are posed as choices - YOU get to decide how to interpret and apply them, there is no right or wrong way.
