Yoga in ACTion
An 8-week course integrating yoga, mindfulness, and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) to support holistic mental and emotional wellbeing.
Eight online sessions integrating yoga, mindfulness, and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT). This module provides evidence-based tools for supporting students living with stress, chronic pain, or emotional challenges.
What is ACT?
Imagine you're rowing a boat and a storm hits. You can spend all your energy trying to make the storm stop (which is out of your control) — or you can put your hands back on the oars and keep rowing toward where you want to go, storm and all. ACT is teaching people to keep rowing, in alignment with what matters.
It's an evidence-based approach built around a few key principles: being more present, making space for a full range of thoughts and feelings rather than fighting them, and having the courage to act in line with what matters to you — your values. These tools have been shown to help people better manage stress, mild-to-moderate emotional distress such as anxiety, and even chronic pain.
Who is this for?
Yoga teachers and practitioners interested in supporting general holistic mental and emotional wellbeing through traditional yogic wisdom and contemporary ACT principles. Existing RYTs can take this course for 15 CE Credits with Yoga Alliance or as a 15 hour elective towards AWHI Yoga School's 300hr Yoga certification.
Course format
The course will explore a range of yoga philosophical concepts including Dhāranā, Samskāra, Dyāna, Karma, Svarūpa, Karunā, and Samādhi. Each week includes:
- Self-paced reflective tasks related to each week's conceptual focus
- Weekly 90-minute online group discussion via Google Meet
- Light movement, meditation and/or breathwork to open each call
- Recorded sessions kept confidential amongst group participants
Please note: this course is not yoga therapy, nor does it qualify you in ACT. It's designed to help you make connections between yogic wisdom and behavioural science principles, and to integrate simple, complementary tools into your existing teaching.
Counts towards the AWHI 300hr pathway or as 15 CE credits with Yoga Alliance.
