Workshop: Introduction to the Art of Playing Tibetan Bowls

  • Awhi Yoga & Wellbeing Level 2, 15 Johnston street Wellington New Zealand (map)

Join Wellington’s favourite sound healing artist Claudio Escutia for an introductory workshop on the theory and practice of playing Singing Tibetan bowls!

We all have been captivated with the amazing harmonic and soothing sounds that these instruments can produce. But apart from those beautiful sounds, the harmonic vibrations and mystic atmosphere they create have a direct impact on more than our physical bodies — they reach deep into our mind and spirit, as well.

In this 3.5 hr workshop, you’ll learn the basics of playing Tibetan bowls. The workshop covers:

  • History and origins of Tibetan bowls

  • Benefits of sound (physical, mental, spiritual)

  • How to choose a Tibetan bowl

  • Learn about mallets

  • Techniques to play the bowls (striking, rubbing, etc.)

  • How to get the best sound

  • Practical uses for their harmonic sound in yoga practices, meditation, self-healing, etc.

No previous experience in yoga , meditation or music needed for this course. You do not need your own bowls to participate, either!

What to bring:

  • Comfortable clothing (we will be sitting most of time)

  • Your Tibetan bowl if you have one (Option to learn with Claudio’s bowls if you don't have one; also, Claudio can help you to get/choose one!)

  • Lunch or snacks, we will have a tea and food break in between the course. (Bring your own lunch or kai to share!). Tea is provided.

  • Notebook, pen/pencil, etc.

  • Optional: Yoga Mat, if you prefer your own (studio offers complementary mats)
